Body

Summer 2022 does not seem to want to give respite to our territory. After the scorching heat wave is coming a mass of insects ready to overwhelm Italy, which could cause various inconveniences to citizens. Lombardy in particular must prepare for this new event.

Record heat and global warming

The weather does not bring good news and the situation remains worrying, despite the fact that there have been a few rainy days that have taken a breather. A further peak is expected for next week, with the arrival of Charon.

Abnormal heat is caused from the current environmental situation, which leads to global warming of our planet. Various solutions are being sought to try to stem the problem, but at present there are still no signs of improvement. This is evidenced by the weather news for next week, which is expected to increase temperatures by 13 and 15 degrees more than the seasonal average.

Lombardy will have to expect the comeback of a sub-tropical anticyclone and the ventilation will be almost weak, causing many problems. This situation is not good for agriculture, because in addition to the burnt crops due to the drought that hit the Norththere are animals that suffer from the heat.

Cows produce much less milk due to the stress of the scorching heat. The ideal temperature for cattle is around 22 or 24 degrees and we are a long way from this average. During this time, cows eat less and drink much more, producing so little milk.

But in addition to the heat wave and the state of emergency in which much of Northern Italy finds itself due to drought, the situation is worsened by the rapid spread of an Asian bug called Popilla japonica. This is an old acquaintance for Lombardy, but this year it could create several inconveniences.

The invasion of Asian insects

This is not the first time this guest has come to visit us. Already in 2021 this particular bug had invaded the San Siro Hippodrome with millions of larvae, but currently the presence of this beetle is destined to increase by 10%.

Milan and Lombardy in general will not be the only victims of Popilla japonica and insects in general. In Sardinia, an invasion of grasshoppers has already been reported which for some time has caused a lot of damage to the fields. Precisely because of this report, the Minister of Agriculture Stefano Patuanelli accepted the request for a state of disaster for Sardinia.

Not even Turin is spared from the invasion of bedbugs, but in this case it is the elm bedbug. The Savoy capital is made up of long avenues full of trees, which unfortunately could host these unwelcome insects. The people who live near the avenues have been literally invaded by these bugs and there have been many reports.

The government is looking for a way to limit the damage of this situation, but it knows how individual citizens try to do everything to prevent the planet Earth from still suffering this climatic situation that is gradually worsening day by day.
